Lockdown babies can now be registered with Wakefield Council

Since March more than 2,200 babies have been born in the district. So far over 800 babies have received their birth certificates since the service, which was deferred on government guidance, restarted a month ago.

Registration is by appointment only, with a limited number of people attending at any time in order to keep everyone safe.

Parents with babies born before June 9 can contact the service to make an appointment, at www.wakefield.gov.uk/births-marriages-deaths/births

Coun Michael Graham, Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “Thanks to everyone for their continued support and understanding. We had to halt registration services back in March, but are gradually getting back to a new normality in these challenging times. Staff continue to work hard to get up to date with birth registrations as soon as possible.”

Measures have been taken to ensure that Council premises are safe for residents and staff and people are asked to follow Government guidelines on social distancing when visiting.
