Main road into Castleford remains shut this morning

A main route into Castleford remains closed this morning after the River Aire rose to more than three metres.

Storm Dennis brought torrential rain over the weekend and Barnsdale Road, between Allerton Bywater and Castleford, was left impassable from Saturday night.

The river around that area peaked at around 3.26 metres, just 10cm short of it's record level.

It has now dropped to 2.41 metres.

It is the second time in two weeks that the river has flooded following Storm Ciara and now Storm Dennis.

Other roads left closed included Doncaster Road in Ackworth and Doncaster Road at Thorpe Audlin. They have since re-opened.
