One way system to be introduced at busy Wakefield junction

A one way system is to be introduced close to a busy Horbury junction.

Work is underway to introduce the system on the Bridge Road triangle, Horbury Bridge. 

Heavy traffic has been reported in the area while work is carried out, with one driver reporting that it had taken them an hour to travel between Middlestown and Horbury on Monday morning.

Under the new scheme, which is expected to be completed in the coming days, a one way system will be introduced along Bridge Road, past the junctions with Storrs Hill Road and St John’s Street.

A 20mph speed limit will also be introduced past Horbury Bridge CE J&I School.

Glynn Humphries, Wakefield Council’s Service Director for Environment and Streetscene, said: “The works are expected to be completed within the next 10 days.”    

The work had previously been delayed after heavy flooding in the area.
