Resurfacing work on major Wakefield road is now complete

A section of Broadway in Lupset has undergone a full reconstruction, which the council says demonstrates its commitment to keeping the district’s road network up to a good standard - a key priority for residents.

Over the next four years Wakefield Council is investing £12million into the district’s roads, which trebles the annual investment from £1million to £3million each year.

A big part of this investment includes roads which have continuously suffered from potholes and been repaired too often, as was the case with Broadway.

The council said that investing in long-term repairs will mean less is spent on tackling potholes as they occur and that the safety of residents always comes first with safety measures already in place along the road replaced as part of the resurfacing.

The majority of the works also took place during the October half-term school holidays to minimise disruption around the school which is located on this stretch of road.

Coun Matthew Morley, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Highways, said: “This section of Broadway was due for resurfacing as part of our regular maintenance schedule but after receiving numerous concerns from residents about potholes, we decided that a full reconstruction was needed.

“The extra money we have put into maintaining our road network means that we can focus on long-term repairs which is better for our residents and for us as a council.

“This was a really important investment and I hope that local residents are pleased with the work.”
