SLIDESHOW: Flight of Wakefield Cathedral’s peregrine family

The peregrine family which has fledged on the spire of Wakefield Cathedral has held the city in its grip this summer.

A dedicated band of watchers led by Francis Hickenbottom, of Wakefield Naturalists’ Society, has monitored virtually every wing beat of the family of five.

The two adults can often be seen high on the spire, while the three young birds seem to split their time between the cathedral and neighbouring tower blocks.

Here is a slideshow of some of the pictures taken by Mr Hickenbottom, Julie Knowles, Gerry McShane and Mick Bland.
