Soulmates celebrate Valentine's Day with a surprise romantic date at Castleford care home

The couple’s story began with a holiday romance in Torquay when they were both in their 20’s, where they first exchanged a glace across the dancefloor before dancing all night long together.

The pair stayed in touch after their holiday, despite the 300 mile distance between them and love conquered all as they regularly travelled to visit one another before Phil made the decision to move to Yorkshire to be closer to his soulmate.

The happy couple courted for many years before saying their ‘I do’s’ in front of their friends and family in 1959. Since their wedding, the happy couple have hardly spent a day apart.

The thoughtful staff at Newfield Lodge organised for Brenda and Phil to share a romantic meal together to celebrate Valentine’s Day, complete with candles and rose petals on the table, and a delicious buffet style dinner with the care team acting as their personal waiters offering a five star restaurant table service.

The couple, who have one son, believe the secret to a long and happy marriage is to be considerate to each other’s feelings.

Brenda said: "In all of the years that we have been together, we have never argued we always respect each other’s point of view!."

Phil added: "I think the key to success is to always be considerate and thoughtful – that’s how you have a successful marriage."
