Supercar show set to be held at Production Park cancelled

A high performance car show due be held in South Kirkby later this month has been cancelled.

Darkside Development was due to host the show.

Production Park was set to host the exhibition by Darkside Developments on Sunday, August 30.

But due to coronavirus restrictions organisers have been forced to cancel the event.

Darkside Developments is a performance diesel tuning company based in Grimethorpe.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

It works mainly on VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) and has its own project cars, which are modified and then raced.

It holds the world record for drag racing in fastest 4WD Seat Arosa.

An arena-sized studio – Studio 001 – which is usually hosts production rehearsals of the biggest names in the music industry was set to host the show.

In May it was confirmed that a £3.5m state-of-the-art live events facility will open in Wakefield next year.

The Backstage Innovation Hub, which will be built at Production Park will feature specialist equipment designed to support the live events industry, as well as a business support programme focused on assisting small and medium enterprises

The new 2,520 square metre building is expected to open in 2021 and will include large scale design and prototype spaces equipped for both physical and virtual environments, as well as multi-use meeting spaces and workshop space and design spaces.

It is hoped that the funding from the European Regional Development Fund, which has been secured as part of a joint project between Wakefield Council and higher education provider Backstage Academy, will bring new businesses and investment to the district.

The companies based at Production Park have worked with some of the biggest names in the world, welcoming the likes of Little Mix and The XX to on site rehearsal facilities, supplying equipment and staging for touring concert artists including Ed Sheeran, Metallica and Muse and supporting clients from Fast and Furious Live to Sony and Formula 1.

Numerous businesses call Production Park on the Langthwaite estate their home - alongside other live events businesses offering services in areas including tour catering and lighting.
