The residents, who live on Glenfields, in Netherton, were awarded the prize after their postcode was announced as a winner on Tuesday, December 8.

People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt broke the news to the residents via a video call on Tuesday morning.

One of the winners, Nick Horsfield, 60, said: "Wow! You’re having a laugh? That’s a lot of money. That is really, really good. Thank you so much.

"That is unbelievable, it's fantastic. You’ve made my day!"

A second winner chose to remain anonymous, but will still receive their money deposited into their bank account.

The prize was announced as part of the charity's Christmas campaign, which sees one postcode announced as a £50,000 prize winner every day.

All players in the winning postcode will be awarded £50,000 for every ticket they hold.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt shared the good news with the winners via video call. She said: “Congratulations to our winners in Netherton! It was lovely speaking to Nick and I hope this surprise will make the festive season even more special for him!”

It is the second big postcode lottery in Wakefield this year, after four households in Walton were each awarded a £30,000 prize in July.

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

A minimum of 32% of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise over £600 million to date for thousands of good causes across Britain and internationally.

This draw was promoted on behalf of Greenpeace Environment Trust which has received over £1.8 million in funding from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
