Wakefield Council flies flags at half mast in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore

Wakefield Council flew the flag at half-mast Wakefield Town Hall yesterday to honour Captain Sir Tom Moore.

The town Hall was also be lit up blue this evening in tribute to the fundraiser who died on Tuesday.

Second World War veteran Captain Sir Tom raised £33m for the NHS last year, by walking laps of his garden at his home in Bedfordshire.

Coun Denise Jeffery, leader of Wakefield Council, said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Captain Sir Tom Moore. He captured the hearts of the nation last year, raising millions for our NHS services and inspiring so many others during the most challenging of times.

“He was a true inspiration, a hero. We are pleased to be able to honour him in this way.

“Our thoughts are with his family and his friends at this time as we all mourn his passing.
