Wakefield photographer captures lockdown Lego wedding on camera

It's been more than a month since Andy Matheson has photographed a wedding, so he decided to set one up in his back garden in Wakefield instead, with Lego people as the bride, groom and guests.

The 25-year-old captured every scene of a typical wedding day, from the bride getting ready in the morning to the first dance.

"What has happened is awful for the brides," said Andy. "But I also found myself getting quite bored as a photographer.

"I'm used to just turning up and everything being done for you, but here I had to get my head in a different space to create these scenes."

Andy created a fictional couple, Rachel and Rowan, and recreated some scenes from weddings he has photographed in the past.

The groom's choice of chain mail armour wasn't the most traditional, and neither was the father of the bride's cowboy outfit, but with Andy's skills you'd barely notice the difference - he even used red lentils as confetti for that all important shot.

Most pictures were done in his back garden, but a particularly eye-catching image of the Lego couple watching fireworks was taken inside using sparklers.

All Andy's bookings have been postponed due to coronavirus, but he has been working with couples who are looking to rearrange.

"It's a lovely job to have," Andy added. "People coming together, having a big party and celebrating.

"I get to witness and be part of an amazing day that couples have worked so hard on.

"It's sad that they are not going ahead as planned, but I've been lucky and I'm working with couples and being flexible about the dates."

Posting his pictures online, Andy even tagged in some local wedding businesses he has worked with in the past.

He added: "It was a last minute wedding, but all of my favourite suppliers came together to make it the day that Rachel and Rowan always wanted."
