Steph Stanley, who has been preparing the meals with her mum, Lesley Hird at the Bradford Road pub said: “The response has been overwhelming and I’ve been tearful at times. Most of the staff are not eating because they don’t have time to get to the cafeteria during their shift.

“The strength they must have to work in such a dangerous place and being forced to miss essential meals, is incredible.

“We’ve had so many lovely messages from the nurses.”

Pies are being delivered today while full roast dinners will be on the menu this Sunday.

Buns are also being made by friends of the pubs which are being sent to the wards also.

The pub will continue to deliver meals, the first 50 being financed by the pub, but they are asking for continued public support to feed the rest.

To donate go to gofundme.com and search for ‘Malt Shovel’ or alternatively donate through the pub’s Facebook page.

All of the money raised goes towards the ingredients.
