Work starts on £5.5million Wakefield housing development
Work has started on a £5.5 million redevelopment of a Wakefield site which will see 38 new homes built.
Two sites, which were formerly home to independent living accommodation for elderly people in Eastmoor, will be replaced with modern affordable rent and shared ownership homes.
Demolition of buildings at the Greenhill Road site, which had been vacant since 2018, began in November.
Meanwhile, approval for the transformation of Colin Barnaby Court located just three miles away has now been granted.
Working on behalf of WDH, Esh Construction will deliver 14 new two and three-bedroom homes at Greenhill Road, while the demolition work at Colin Barnaby Court will pave the way for a new access road and 24 new homes.

“These schemes will provide more energy-efficient accommodation than previously situated on the sites and will enhance the Wakefield area, attracting more families and professionals.
“They will offer a range of modern living options for prospective customers and tenants close to the city centre and its excellent transport links.”
WDH has worked alongside Homes England to bring the scheme to fruition with combined funding of £1.2m being granted.
With building work underway in Wakefield, Esh Construction recently announced the contract award for an affordable housing scheme in Castleford.
The £9.2 million development on Pemberton Road is a joint development between WDH and Leeds Federated Housing Association (LFHA) which will provide 82 new affordable homes.
