Yorkshire Sculpture Park has taken the decision to close its doors to the public, saying they experienced a 'high number' of visitors at the weekend.

They said: "Following the fast-changing nature of the COVID-19 outbreak and Government advice we have taken the difficult decision to close YSP to the public.

"Staff, volunteer and visitor safety is highly important to us.

"We experienced high visitor numbers last weekend which made it more difficult to embrace social distancing, therefore, this decision is aimed at urging everyone to stay at home and keep safe and well."

The attraction added that as an independent charity,being closed during the spring and summer peak period will be increadibly difficult for them as they reply on income from car parking, catering and retail to fund their exhibitions, educational programme and to maintain the historic landscape.

They said:" If you have enjoyed visiting YSP, believe in the importance of our work and are able to support us at this challenging time, we would greatly value your help to safeguard our future.

"Please donate if you can.

"Please continue to follow the official advice and keep yourself and others safe and healthy during this tough time.

"We look forward to welcoming you back to YSP once it is safe to do so."
