Plan to build 80-bed care home on old stone quarry site
Hill Care Limited wants to build a three-storey complex at the former Gillatts Quarry off Redhill Drive, but the plans are subject to planners giving it approval.
The Wakefield Council site was partly bought by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, which intended to build a community station on the land before deciding against it.

“We also believe that the purchase of the site will take away a financial liability by the current owners.”
Each floor of the proposed home would have separate lounges to create quiet spaces to accommodate resident’s needs.
It would include a secure garden with rosemary, lavender, silver sage, black bamboo, fern and mint for residents to enjoy.

“This aims to challenge the stereotype of the secure ‘jail like’ air locked area that so typifies converted homes of the past.”
A decision about the care home will be made by October 7.
