The Three Houses Inn on Barnsley Road, Sandal, will be given a makeover, which includes carrying out structural work to the existing chimney breasts, installing new signage and removing the bar rack.

Contractors will also refurbish the pub’s toilet facilities, redecorate the walls, ceilings and floors and remove timber panels.

Wakefield Council had received one letter of objection from Wakefield South councillor David Hopkins, who was concerned about refurbishing the Grade II listed building.

But the council’s planning and highways decided to approve the application at a meeting yesterday.

The Three Houses Inn was devastated by a fire in January 2013.

The bar was ruined, ceiling destroyed and antique photographs of the pub were damaged when an electrical fault sparked the blaze.
