A CAR flipped onto its roof and ended up in a field after a police chase.

The driver and passenger of a BMW were taken to Pinderfields Hospital after the incident in Overton, close to the National Coal Mining Museum, at around 4.40am on Tuesday.

Police spotted the car being driven erratically along Westgate in the city centre.

It failed to stop and was followed by police as it headed towards Horbury and then onto the A642 towards Huddersfield.

The car left the carriage way and was found overturned on its roof in a field.

The incident is being investigated by the force’s collision investigation unit in liaison with the West Yorkshire Police’s professional standards department.

It has also been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission which will decide whether or not to investigate.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
