Police release CCTV pictures in relation to Wakefield robbery

Police have released CCTV images of men they want to speak to in connection with a ‘cowardly’ robbery in Wakefield city centre.

A 37-year-old was attacked by three men outside Boots Opticians, Kirkgate, between 11.50pm and 11.55pm on Wednesday, October 22.

The victim was approached from behind, knocked to the floor and assaulted. The men stole his phone and cash card and forced him to hand over his pin number. Money was later withdrawn from his account.

All three suspects were described as white and aged between 20 and 30. The first man was around 5ft 9/10 inches tall, of big build, with short, dark hair and a scar across his left eye. He was wearing a black polo shirt or jumper and dark trousers.

The second suspect was also around 5ft 9/10 inches tall, of average build with short, dark hair. He wore a tight fitting t-shirt and dark trousers. The third man was around 5ft 6/7inches tall, of normal build with short, brown hair.

DC Laura Wheatley, from Wakefield CID, said: “We are issuing some new images of men we want to speak to in connection with what was a cowardly attack by a group of men on a lone victim.

“I would appeal to anyone who recognises the men pictured in these new CCTV stills, or the older ones, to speak to us as we would like to speak to them in connection with the attack.

“Anyone who has information and can assist is asked to contact Wakefield CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
