City Fields developer wanting to start work at 7.30am explains reasons behind request to Wakefield Council

A developer wanting to start building work on a Wakefield estate at 7.30am says the request is being done to bring its hours "into line" with other firms

.Redrow Homes are one of a number of construction companies working on the City Fields development off the eastern relief road.

They've now asked for planning permission to start operating on the site half an hour earlier than they're currently allowed.

Conditions imposed by Wakefield Council before the development started in 2018 restricted Redrow to working after 8am on weekdays and 8.30am on Saturdays, so that neighbours wouldn't be disturbed early in the morning.

David Faraday, Redrow's Yorkshire technical director said: "Our application to Wakefield Council is designed to bring working hours at this site in line with most of our other residential developments and also in line with other developers operating at City Fields who already start at 7.30am on weekdays."

A decision on the matter is likely to be made later in the year.

Last year, Redrow was accused of treating neighbours with "total disdain" after they were found to have repeatedly breached the restrictions.

The company was later sent an enforcement notice by the council.
