At this year’s elections there are 21 seats up for grabs at the vote – 15 Labour seats and six Conservative.
In total, there are 78 candidates standing for seven different parties at the elections, including the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP), the Green Party, the Liberal Democrats and the Trade Union and Socialist Party.

Hide AdThe council is currently made up of 52 Labour councillors and 11 Conservative councillors.
As well as the online and Twitter coverage of the local elections results today, there will be a full round-up, including comments from the result count, in a special report in printed in next week’s Express.
Voters also chose on the future of the European Parliament at the ballot boxes yesterday.
The results are expected to be announced on Sunday night once the votes have been counted from across the continent.
