In plans submitted to Wakefield Council, applicant Mr Khan has applied for permission to construct a two-storey building on land off Bevan Grove, close to Pinderfields Hospital and the former Stanley Royd hospital, now part of the Parklands estate.

The building would consist of a small newsagent-style shop downstairs, and an adjoining flat on the first floor.

Two dedicated parking spaces would be included in the development, with additional parking available on an adjoining car park and nearby residential streets.

The application notes that the manager of the shop will live in a flat above the shop, and will be personally responsible for collecting goods to be sold from the shop, meaning that no deliveries will be required via HGV.

If approved, the shop would be open from 8am to 8pm Sunday to Friday, and 8am to 9pm on Saturdays.

There are "no plans" to apply for a licence to sell alcohol, the application notes.
