Pontefract pupils raise hundreds with their own Race for Life

Youngsters at The Rookeries Carleton J&I School held their own mini Race for Life to raise funds for charity.

The 216 children ran around the school fields and raised £1,650 for Cancer Research UK. Some of the pupils were running in memory of family members who have died from cancer while others got into the spirit of the event by dressing in pink outfits.

Headteacher Jo Heggie said: “It was amazing to see how much support the children received from parents and friends through sponsorship and generous donations. Many of our family and friends have been affected by cancer. The children had a lot of fun and really enjoyed themselves whilst supporting this worthwhile cause.”
