Ledger Lane Post Office was closed last April when the subpostmater resigned.
But a replacement branch will open at a newsagents, Outwood Express, on Potovens Lane, in May.
Since the Post Office shut, pensioners have been forced to pay for taxis to collect their pensions.
Ralph Margrave, of Margaret Street, said: “It’s about time it re-opened. The inconvenience it has caused has been absolutely terrible.
“I’m 93 and I’ve had to trawl round Wakefield. And my friend who is in her 80s has been paying £10 to get a taxi down to Stanley to get hers.”
This week the Post Office launched a consultation to ask people their opinions about opening hours, services and other facilities.
Ed Balls, MP for Outwood and Morley, said: “I’ve been fighting to get this Post Office back up and running again for almost a year. I know the setbacks have been a real frustration to residents in this part of Outwood, who have been left without a Post Office service all this time.
“I’m now urging the hundreds of residents who have been in touch with me to get involved with this consultation to ensure we get a service which meets the needs of people in Outwood.”
A date for the re-opening has not been confirmed yet.
A Post Office spokeswoman said: “Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term and the reopening of Ledger Lane Post Office at this new location will enable us to restore Post Office services to Outwood.”
