Protestors will call on government to help with Syrian refugee crisis

Organiser Fran Kinchin said refugees should be given “safety and shelter” in the UK.

The protest follows photographs published earlier this week, showing the lifeless body of a young boy washed up on a Turkish beach.

He was one of 12 Syrians drowned attempting to reach the Greek island of Kos.

Ms Kinchin, of Ossett, said: “I, like many other people in this country was traumatised at the photographs of the young children washed upon a beach in Turkey.

“We cannot and should not let David Cameron state that the UK is not caring.

“The majority of people in this country care very deeply about this crisis but feel impotent in doing anything to help.

“That is why I have organised the peaceful protest.

“I want this government to give the Syrian people their basic human right of safety and shelter.

“We have a human obligation to offer protection to individuals who are fleeing war.”

The demonstration takes place on Sunday at 7.30pm.
