£11.6m care complex is right on track

The Frickley Mews Extra Care Scheme, which will include 67 apartments, a restaurant and a hairdressers, is being built in South Elmsall.

It is part of a housing development consisting of family homes, a supported housing bungalow and the extra care apartments on Gordon Place.

It is being built by Chevin Housing Association in partnership with Wakefield Council and will include 44 family homes and 67 extra care apartments .

The state-of-the-art facility is part of a council scheme to provide more community-based care for the elderly across the district.

And the first tenants are expected to move into the new apartments early next year.

Coun Pat Garbutt, the council’s cabinet member for adults and health, said: “Work on Frickley Mews is on track and we are expecting people to move in early next year.

“This is fantastic news as it will increase people’s choice of care in the district.”

Frickley Mews has been designed to be dementia friendly and aims to enable people to live independently for longer in their own homes.

Eight of the apartments will be utilised by the council’s in-house reablement team.

The staff will help people relearn or regain skills they need on a daily basis, which they may have lost following an illness, an accident or a disability.

Eligible tenants will be people in the district over 50-years-old.
