Public meeting in Pontefract over future of children’s centres

Protest outside county hall, Wakefield against plans to close children's centres in the Wakefield district.

A public consultation event will be held from 6pm-7.30pm at De Lacy Primary School, on Chequerfield Lane, over plans by Wakefield Council which could see some centres close.

The district’s 23 children’s centres could be centralised into six main hubs and three “linked sites”, offering extra support in deprived areas.

Meetings will also be held at the same time on:

• Tuesday, September 16, at Chesneys Centre, Regent Street, Featherstone

• Thursday, September 18, at Ossett Town Hall

• Tuesday, September 23, at The Grove, Stockingate, South Kirkby

• Wednesday, September 24, at Havercroft and Ryhill Sports and Youth Centre, on Mulberry Avenue

• Tuesday, September 30, at St Michael’s CE Academy, Flanshaw Lane, Wakefield
