Rail fare price hike

RAIL fares are set to soar again at the beginning of next year.

A season ticket between Wakefield and Leeds will cost nearly £1,000 from January 2013, due to a rise of three per cent plus inflation.

The ticket currently costs £908 following an increase of eight per cent at the start of this year.

Mary Creagh MP said: “This is bad news for commuters facing a cost of living crisis, and for our local economy. People from Wakefield are still recovering from a fare hike this January, and now are set for an increase of at least six per cent. The government should take action before they price people out of work.”
