A railway bridge, which was damaged after a skip lorry crashed into it, has been mended ahead of schedule.

The bridge over Haigh Lane, Haigh, was left unsafe after a lorry hit it on Saturday morning.

The road was closed in both directions and trains between Wakefield and Barnsley were cancelled.

An emergency road closure was put in place again today (Tuesday) while workers repaired the bridge.

The road, close to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, was due to be closed again tomorrow (Wednesday).

But the work has been completed and the road is now open again.
