The Bingley Arms in Horbury Bridge is a grade II-listed Georgian pub but has been put on the market by the Heineken-owned Star Pub & Bars. But locals are refusing to give in without a fight and an online petition has been launched by local resident David Flint and more than 300 signatures have been added already.

Mr Flint said: “This is a very much-loved public house that holds fond memories for many people and I am quite confident that the campaign will gain some momentum. Hopefully it will show the brewery that if it comes to a case of ‘use it or lose it’ then people will rally round and show their support for this very beautiful Georgian public house that is set in an idyllic setting next to the canal.”

The Express contacted Star Pubs & Bars for a response, but they did not say why it was looking to sell.

The firm’s statement reads: “We have put The Bingley Arms on the market but it is continuing to trade and is open as normal.”

The pub, built,in 1822, sits between the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation canal.
