Residents reminded to display parking permits to avoid fine

The reminder comes as Wakefield Council has now taken on the powers for enforcing vehicle parking restrictions across the district.

The council has had responsibility for Civil Parking Enforcement since June 13, having taken on the powers from the Police. The council’s team of Civil Enforcement Officers are now patrolling the streets across the district, offering a greater level of enforcement.

Coun Matthew Morley, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: “We are reminding residents to display their parking permits if they live in a permitted zone.

“The greater level of enforcement offered by the council’s Civil Enforcement Officers means that motorists who do not display their residential parking permit are now more likely to be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.

“If residents need to replace a permit, or apply for a new one, this can be done on the council’s website.”

Motorists whose parking contravenes the regulations will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) which costs £50 or £70 depending on the seriousness of the contravention.

This charge is reduced by 50% if it is paid within 14 days of the PCN’s issue date. Failure to pay will result in further action, including an increased charge.

To apply for a residential parking permit, or to replace a lost one, please visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/parking. Those that live in an area with a resident parking scheme, will require a permit for every vehicle parked outside their home.
