Revealed: district’s most fly-tipped streets

Figures obtained by the Express show hundreds more complaints about rubbish being dumped on streets have been made during the past three years.

In 2014-15 Wakefield Council received 2,858 complaints about fly-tipping, an increase of 504 on the previous year.

A total of 51 complaints were made about Dewsbury Road in Wakefield, 49 about Park Lodge Lane in Eastmoor and 46 about Smallwell Lane in Notton.

There were 41 reports made about Keeper Lane in Notton and 39 made about Doncaster Road in North Elmsall.

In 2012-13, 2,312 complaints were made to Wakefield Council and in 2013-14 the number was 2,354.

Other streets hit by fly-tippers were West Street in Castleford, which had 20 complaints, and in Pontefract Broad Lane and Stuart Road both received 20.

There were 14 complaints about Hardwick Road in Featherstone and Hazel Road in Knottingley was complained about 17 times.

Glynn Humphries, service director for Environment and Streetscene Services at Wakefield Council, said: “We do not tolerate fly-tipping wherever it happens and we will take action against those responsible, including action through the courts if necessary.”
