Road closures this weekend as festival pedals through town
Road closures and diversions will be in place this weekend as amateur cyclists follow in the tyre tracks of elite riders for this year's Pontefract Cycling Festival.
The festival - formerly known as the Pontefract Grand Prix - takes place on Sunday on a closed route which spans across the town centre.
It features a 1km traffic-free circuit and will offer races for men, women, schools and veterans.
There will also be an Events Village with family activities and amusements.
Ashley Brown, event organiser, said: “We have more races and many more activities throughout the day. With an events village, fun fair and food stalls there is something for the whole family.”
It follows the Tour de Yorkshire, which passed through Pontefract last month.
Some of the sport’s top riders will ride through the town centre when the races begin this weekend.
And families will be able to take part in this year’s event with a variety of special rides being organised from 10am-11am. There will also be a host of entertainment on offer including a fun fair, food stalls, face painting, bouncy castles and a cycling jumble sale.
