Roadworks start to be lifted on the M1 near Wakefield

They were removed from the hard shoulder on the northbound carriageway between junction 39 (Denby Dale) and junction 41 (Morley) last night and an extra lane has also opened on the northbound carriageway between junction 41 (Wakefield) and junction 42 (Lofthouse). An extra lane will open on the southbound carriageway between junction 41 (Morley) and junction 39 (Denby Dale) tomorrow, following a full closure of the road tonight.

The roadworks are being lifted in stages so the technology can be tested before the scheme fully opens.

A 50mph speed limit will remain in place until then. A further announcement about the opening of the scheme will be made closer to the time.

This work was due to be completed last weekend but it was postponed due to the weather.
