Organisers believe it is the biggest official gathering of its kind ever in Yorkshire.

Cormac Hamilton, Trinity Walk’s centre manager, said: “While we didn’t break the world record, setting what we think is a Yorkshire record is brilliant.

“More importantly, we had so many smiling faces and it was a delight to see whole families turning up in full princess costume.

“We’ve never done anything like this before, so it wasn’t a bad first attempt and the support from other organisations and retailers was amazing.”

The event was supported by Theatre Royal Wakefield and Forget Me Not children’s hospice.
