Wakefield rugby league gala kicks off at Thornes Park tomorrow at 10am.

The four-hour event will feature community rugby teams from across the district, including a squad from West Yorkshire Police and teams from the other emergency services.

The squads will compete against each other for the top team title and the chance to win signed rugby merchandise.

A mystery special guest will be meeting people at the event and there will be fun for all the family.

There will also be a number of stalls from other agencies, including Wakefield District Housing and Wakefield Council.

The event has been organised by the Central neighbourhood police team (NPT) in partnership with the Wakefield Wildcats rugby team, Wakefield Council, the public sector union Unison and the workwear and specialist clothing provider Xamax.
