THE first Sandal Castle Proms will take place on Sunday.
Those who do not wish to travel to London for the Proms can enjoy rousing classical music for free at one of the city’s most historic sites instead.
The Friends of Sandal Castle have secured the internationally-reknowned West Yorkshire Police Band.
The event is one of the first for the recently-formed friends group, who aim to increase the use of the castle.
Committee member Keith Souter said: “The West Yorkshire Police Brass Band are going to have a great repertoire of favourites, including Land of Hope and Glory.
“People will be able to buy flags to wave, just like at the Proms.
“It will be a great place for a picnic and it is all free.”
The police band has performed all over the world and have been chosen to play at the 10th anniversary of the Twin Towers attack in New York in September.
There is no need for a ticket for the event, which starts at 2.30pm.
Refreshments will be available but picnics are encouraged.
An after show party will be held at The Priory bar on Back Lane from 5pm.
