Sarah wants her 10K a day to go to next level

Runner Sarah Powala is again going the extra mile for Wakefield Hospice.

The 37-year-old from Newmillerdam has been supporting the hospice since 2015 when her mum Shirley received end of life there.

Last year Sarah raised an £3,500 for the hospice at Aberford Road by doing ‘10k a Day in May’.

At the time Sarah said: “I lost my mum to cancer and the hospice were exceptional. Not only did they care for my mum and make sure she was comfortable in her final weeks, but the staff at the Day Therapy Unit have also been a constant support to myself as I continue to adapt to life without her.”

This year Sarah is doing 10K a day again but the aim is to make it bigger and better for 2017.

The charity runner said: “I’m inviting everyone to get involved. It’s a team effort this year, and the runs so far have been fantastic. We’re even getting noticed and cheered on as we run.”

So far 20 runners have already signed up to join Sarah, but there is still chance to register for one of her runs before the end of the month.

Jamie Strachan, events fundraiser at Wakefield Hospice, said: “Sarah is quite simply incredible. She is an inspiration to so many and we are delighted to see she has brought her challenge back. The public of Wakefield seem to have really taken to it and we are delighted to have the support of sponsors Richard Kendall Estate Agent and Beaumont Legal. We are hoping that by the end of May, the combined distance covered by all the runners will be enough to cover the distance from Wakefield to Algiers – over 1,900km!”

To sign up and for more visit www.wakefield10k.org.uk/sarah10k. Entry is £25, which will fund an hour of nursing care.
