Serious injuries after car hits house in Pontefract

Two people were seriously injured when their car hit a house after a collision with a lorry this morning (Friday).

Police said the car, a Mazda people carrier, and a Scania truck collided on Ferrybridge Road at around 11am before the Mazda struck the house, causing structural damage.

A female who was travelling in the Mazda had to be cut from the vehicle by firefighters and suffered spinal injures.

A man who was in the Mazda suffered facial injuries in the accident. Both were taken to hospital.

Darren Wales, watch commander at Pontefract fire station, said the Mazda was forced into the house by the collision.

He said: “The house had some structural damage as a result of the accident and we have had to ask structural engineers to go and assess it.”
