Shop owner tackles sword-wielding man in Pontefract attempted robbery

A shop owner tackled a masked sword-wielding man in an attempted robbery in Pontefract last night (Tuesday).

The suspect entered the shop on George Street, Streethouse, at around 7.50pm, armed with a samurai sword.

He demanded money, before the shopkeeper tackled and disarmed him. The suspect then fled the scene.

The shopkeeper did not sustain any injuries.

The suspect is described as having his face covered and was wearing dark clothing.
