Shoppers are being warned about potentially harmful fake Frozen merchandise which has been found on sale in Pontefract.
Officers from West Yorkshire Trading Standards seized dolls from the hit Disney film, including Anna and Elsa and Olaf the Snowman figures.
Disney has confirmed the product, which was imported from China and has no manufacturer or importer details, is counterfeit.
Trading Standards said the dolls may contain potentially harmful chemicals known as Phtalates.
David Lodge, head of West Yorkshire Trading Standards, said: “People who put profit before safety by recklessly importing fake merchandise face hefty penalties if caught, including a maximum jail term of 10 years or an unlimited fine.”
Coun Ros Lund, chairperson of the West Yorkshire Joint Services Committee which oversees the work of Trading Standards, said: “I urge parents who think they may have purchased one of these items to remove it from children, destroy it responsibly and report the matter to the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline.”
The fake dolls are recognisable by:
- their low price (priced at £9.99 whereas the genuine items sell for around £35)
- having no UK or European importer details
- mispelling ‘DISNEY’ as ‘DISNFY’ on the front of the packaging.
