The 18-year-old former Castleford Academy student said he knew it was his time to go after he failed to impress with his rendition of Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love as part of the ITV talent show’s Fright Night.

Jack, of Aketon Road, said: “I’m gutted to be out but it was weird I knew it was my time to go.

Mel B and I did get on as people but she wanted to make good TV and I wanted it to be about the music.

“I didn’t get it, I felt I was losing myself a bit.

“But I’ve done myself proud town proud.

“I am getting a lot of help from Louis Tomlinson from One Direction and I’m going to do as many gigs as I can and get my own music out there.”

Jack, who quit Pontefract’s NEW College to sing full time, got a mixed reaction from the judges after his performance.

Simon Cowell said: “It’s all gone too crazy. I don’t think this is you. I think you have compromised yourself, I think you’ve got a future in the music industry.”

Louis Walsh said: “It was much better than last week but I think you get a little bit lost on the big stage. I think you’re a small room performer.”

Jack’s performances led to X Factor fever sweeping across Castleford and people from across the town coming out in support for him.

Jack added: “It’s amazing it doesn’t stop here, this is only the beginning.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting the people who voted for me and getting to perform for them.

“I’d love to do the Castleford Christmas lights switch on if it can be arranged.

“I’m very busy with lots of gigs coming up across the country.

“If I don’t get on the X Factor tour then I’m planning to do my own tour which will be exciting because I’ll get to do what I want to do.”
