The soul of Portobello was re-ignited as the community celebrated its tenth annual gala.
Around 500 people turned out at Portobello Soul Festival in Manygates Park on Thursday, July 23.
The event included dance routines, puppet shows and nomad drummers.
Pupils from Kettlethorpe High School played in a five-a-side football tournament throughout the day.
And there was an animal show which included snakes, raccoons, armadillos and meerkats.
The event was organised by Portobello Community Forum and Wakefield Churches Together.
Portobello Community Forum member Sally Martin said: “It was the first time we had brought it out into the park.
“It was like people did not need to go to Glastonbury because we had our own festival.
“The whole community really did help to create a fantastic festival spirit.”
