Southend United assistant manager Dave Penney, of Castleford, charged with assaulting a police officer
Southend United’s assistant manager Dave Penny has been charged with assaulting a police officer following an incident hours before the team’s bus parade promotion celebrations.
Mr Penney, 50, of Lower Oxford Street, Castleford, is also accused of assault and criminal damage in connection with the incident that happened at around 3am on Sunday.
The former Doncaster Rovers manager was arrested outside a casino as players and officials celebrated the club’s promotion from League Two.

Hide AdAn Essex police spokeswoman said he will now appear before Southend Magistrates’ Court on June 8.
Southend United held an open-top bus parade through the town on Monday after winning the League Two play-off final against Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley on Saturday.
