Step back to the 60s with musical nostalgia

The springfield story
The springfield story

revisit the magic of The Springfields at Theatre Royal Wakefield this month when member Mike Hurst brings The Springfield Story to town.

The Springfields, Tom, Dusty and Mike, were the number one group in the UK in 1962-63, with hits including Island of Dreams, Say I Won’t Be There, and Silver Threads and Golden Needles, which reached the top 20 in the USA, making it the first hit record in the US charts by a British vocal group.

The group was formed in 1960 by Tom Springfield and his sister Dusty, who went on to massive solo success, while Mike Hurst became a major player as one of most successful producers of the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

He achieved 51 top ten singles and 25 gold and platinum albums with such major stars as Cat Stevens, Manfred Mann, The Move, Spencer Davis Group, Showaddywaddy, The Four Tops, Cilla Black, Shakin’ Stevens and Belle and Sebastian.

Now Mike has formed a new Springfields with singer Katy Setterfield and brings the show to Wakefield on Friday January 27.

Tickets cost £14, £16 and £18, available from or the box office on 01924 211311.
