Store manager heads off on 355-mile cycle

Andrew Bannon, general manager at Morrisons Pontefract, set off on the challenge today (Thursday).

He wants to raise more than £1,200 for the supermarket chain’s Raise a Smile partnership, which is supporting health and social care charity Sue Ryder.

He has joined dozens of other Morrisons colleagues from across the country for the three-day ride, which has been organised to celebrate hospice care week.

Mr Bannon said: “It will be a challenge but I’m really looking forward to it.

“Although it will be a tough three days, reaching Amsterdam and enjoying a well-earned drink on the bank of the Amstel River will be an amazing experience.

“It’s also great to raise funds for our charity partner Sue Ryder.

“Morrisons Pontefract has raised almost £5,000 for Sue Ryder since our national partnership began in February 2014 and I’m proud to be adding a bit more onto the total.”

Money raised through Raise a Smile is funding new community healthcare services, family support teams and Sue Ryder’s online community and support.

The charity provides care to people at the end of their lives and support for their families.
