Take a look inside Wakefield’s new swimming pool at Sun Lane Leisure

HERE is your first glimpse of the city’s new £10m leisure centre that will open next Saturday.

Sun Lane Leisure has a 25 metre six-lane pool, a learner pool, a fitness suite, activity rooms, meeting rooms, a spectator viewing area and a café.

The main pool can also be used for competitive events.

And it features Changing Places disabled toilet facilities that will be open to people visiting the city as well as club members.

Council leader Coun Peter Box said: “We are committed to investing in the economy and this has not only provided jobs for local people but will also provide a state-of-the-art sports facility for the people of Wakefield.”

About half of the centre’s costs were spent locally, resulting in £4.5m of investment in the local economy.

And stone artwork retained from the original Sun Lane baths, which closed in 2006, has been installed in the cafe area.

The swimming pool at Lightwaves will close next Friday at 7pm, ahead of Sun Lane’s opening the following day.
