The lively litter was rescued by the Leeds Dogs Trust and have been named after the city’s Team GB medal hopefuls. All five pups, who aged six weeks-old, were handed over to the York Road rehoming centre as part of an unwanted litter. Staff at the centre are hopeful that after they receive specialist round the clock care, the pups will be ready to cross the finish line into their new homes. Amanda Sands, rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust Leeds, said: “We reckon they could give their athlete namesakes a real run for their money, as they are such energetic bundles of fun who love nothing more than chasing each other around or having a bit of a playful tussle over their toys. “Like any athletes, the puppies will need time to continue their training and socialisation in their new homes but I know they will make wonderful additions to their sport-mad families who can spend time playing lots of games with their new best friends. “We hope the puppies will have front row seats on their cosy sofas in time to cheer on their namesakes in Rio and that they bring all the athletes lots of luck for the competition.” For more details about the rehoming centre in Leeds contact 0300 303 0292 or visit www.dogstrust.org.uk.
