A TEENAGER was rescued from a canal by his friends.
The 16-year-old jumped into the water near Broad Reach Bridge, on Park Lodge Lane in Eastmoor, last night at around 8.30pm.
He suffered from shock due to the cold temperature of the water and began to struggle in the water.
But luckily his friends managed to pull him out of the canal to safety.
Firefighters from Wakefield Station arrived soon afterwards and gave the boy first aid and oxygen until paramedics arrived.
He was taken to Pontefract General Infirmary for treatment.
Crew Commander David Hollingsworth said: “This boy was very lucky. Young people need to realise how dangerous it is to jump into canals.”
Crews from Leeds, Brighouse and Ossett also attended.
