Joe Marriott, 15, and his mum Yvette Shaw host a monthly meet up at the Wheatsheaf pub in Stanley to taste desserts. And they are trying to raise more than £4,000 so Outwood Academy student Joe can go on a camp international trip to Peru next year, where he will support disadvantaged communities.

People can take a sweet to the Puddings for Peru club and taste what else is on offer or they can just go along and donate to try the sweet treats. The pub is also sponsoring Joe.

Ms Shaw said: “We were having a think about different ways we could fundraise.

“Like most parents, I just seem to be a taxi driver and I thought wouldn’t it be nice if I could get out and socialise and if we could also use that meet up to support Joe. And so we came up with Puddings for Peru.”

Anyone is welcome at Puddings for Peru club on the second Wednesday evening of the month.
