Theatre Royal Wakefield's Sleeping Beauty worth a visit...oh yes it is

The production was my four-year-old daughter’s first pantomime, and I wasn’t sure what she’d make of all the shouting and booing.

But I needn’t have worried, because this show hits all the high notes.

CBeebies star Chris Hannon gave a fabulous performance as the Dame while Thomas Cotran was great as the amusing Muddles.

I really enjoyed the songs from Prince Petroc (played by Steffan Lloyd Evans) with his well-trained, strong musical voice, while both mine and my daughter’s favourite was the evil-turned-good fairy Carabosse, played by Julie Stark.

I’d also like to give a special mention to the young supporting cast members, who danced their hearts out in several scenes, as they were all absolutely superb.

Featuring panto-versions of current hits that everyone will recognise, to some innuendo for the adults, the show really did go down a treat with all ages.

I’d forgotten how much fun a traditional pantomime can be, and I must admit, I shouted ‘it’s behind you’ as much as any youngster in the audience.

It’s well worth a visit no matter how old you are.

Sleeping Beauty is on at the Drury Lane theatre until December 31.
