There ain’t no mountain high enough for little Kasey

Eight-year-old Kasey, of Cherry Tree Road, Walton will be climbing Pen-y-ghent in the Yorkshire Dales so her brother Kane - who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy – can go on holiday to the Florida theme park.

Little Kane, five, was diagnosed with the condition, the most severe form of the genetic disorder, last year.

Kasey, a pupil at Walton Primary Academy, said: “I really love Kane and want to help him go on this trip. I’ve been practising my walking with my mum so I’m ready to climb the peak.

“I’m hoping to raise about £1,000 towards the cost of the trip.”

Kasey is taking part in the climb in June with her grandparents and more than 120 fundraisers from the Duchenne muscular dystrophy charity Joining Jack.

Kasey will donate her first £50 to the charity, which was launched after former rugby player Andy Johnson’s son Jack was diagnosed with the condition.

The rest will go to help fund Kane’s trip - which will cost a total of around £10,000.

Last month Kane’s school, Walton Primary, held a non-uniform day and raised £359 towards the Disney trip.

The fundraising drive was launched last year by the siblings’ dad, Martin, 31, of Holly Bank Hemsworth.

He aims to send Kane, Kasey, and Kane’s mum Julie Kinder on the trip-of-a-lifetime to the park before Kane’s health deteriorates.

Kane’s incurable condition means he will be wheelchair-bound before he reaches his teens and is only expected to live until his 20s.
